The Lord is My Light and My Salvation....

From a young age, Dr. Stone was aware of God's presence and saving grace in his life.  Throughout his entire academic career he served as Minister of Music for numerous churches.   He also enjoyed singing in choirs, especially The Singing Men of East Texas.  Praise and worship were at the core of his being and he constantly spoke of how blessed he was.

The last day of his life he was being treated at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, TX for blood clots in his lungs which were causing pulmonary hypertension and heart failure.  It was very difficult for him to breathe but he had a good afternoon visiting with his daughter, Cindy, and entertaining the nurses and volunteers.  They had watched a movie on TV and Ed dozed off and on, saying it felt good to rest.

When the supper tray was delivered, there was a little card on it with the scripture verse from Psalm 27:1:

" The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?       The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

Never one to ignore an invitation to raise his voice, he began singing the beautiful song based on that passage.  The nurse was duly impressed, neither she nor Cindy realizing it would be his last song on earth.  He enjoyed his supper and a few hours later went into acute heart failure and passed away that evening.

We are blessed to have many of his recordings made through the years, and we'd like to share with you some of his favorite spiritual songs.  They were a comfort to him and we hope they will encourage you.
